SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. (Katy Brown) -- Students at South Charleston High School are certainly in shock over the recent and sudden passing of their classmate Tahzee Martin. But there's something they all say they've learned from this and it's martin's final message to them all.
Rico Bradley, who is a childhood friend of Martin's said not seeing him anymore is the hardest part.
"He's a childhood friend, I've known him forever," Bradley said. "I do miss him."
Martin passed away suddenly over the weekend.
And, on Wednesday, family and friends gathered at South Charleston High School to hold a vigil to honor the 16-year-old.
Principal Michael Arbogast described Martin as "a very popular young man at the school."
Martin's friends described him as a funny person, saying he was the one who made everyone laugh. Those statements were reflected in a the school nurse's tribute.
"He loved to come to the clinic and he loved to get me going. And he'd just shoot me that handsome little grin. He knew he was getting away with it."
At the remembrance, candles were lit in remembrance. Ribbons to wear in honor. And Martin's latest artwork displayed for all to enjoy.
For friends, Martin leaves behind memories they will cherish for a lifetime.
And for everyone Martin leaves behind an important message:
"Live everyday to the fullest," Arbogast said. "Appreciate being here and appreciate each other."
Bradley echoing Arbogast's statement saying you can't take life for granted.
" You might be alive and healthy one day and then the next day you could be dead," Bradley said. "So yeah, it's a big lesson."
Funeral arrangements for Martin are being handled by the Walton's Chapel of Faith Funeral Home in Charleston. But the time and date of the funeral are unknown at this time.
