State Police Release Name Of Man Who Was Shot, Killed By Trooper

HARTS, W.Va. (Mamie Buoy, Jeff Morris, Chris Williams) -- State Troopers said Curley Edward Spry’s wife called police because he had a gun, and was a danger to his family.

When police arrived at the Spry home on Brier Branch Road near Harts, they said, they found Spry in his bedroom holding a gun.

Police said Spry aimed his gun at troopers, and that’s when one officer opened fire. Spry died as a result of the injuries.




HARTS, W.Va. (Mamie Buoy, Jeff Morris) -- State Police have released the name of the man who they said was shot and killed by a trooper after he pointed a gun at the officer.

Curley Edward Spry, 42, was shot and killed by the trooper in Brier Branch in the Harts Creek area of Logan County, Sgt. Mike Baylous, spokesman for the West Virginia State Police, said.

Baylous said troopers they responded to the area after receiving a call about a man who was possibly suicidal. When the trooper arrrived at the scene, the man pointed a gun, and he was shot by the officer, Baylous said.

The incident happened about 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Harts area of Logan County, Sgt. Michael Baylous said.

Baylous said State Police received a call about an incident involving a gun. When the trooper arrived at the scene, the suspect used a gun in a threatening manner and the trooper shot him, Baylous said.
