Driver Of Overturned Tractor-Trailer On I-77 Transported to Hospital

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (Jeff Morris) -- One northbound lane of Interstate 77 near the MacCorkle Avenue exit was expected to be closed for a period Tuesday morning because a crane is being brought in to pick up a 50,000-pound generator that an overturned tractor-trailer was hauling, a West Virginia Turnpike dispatcher said.

A southbound lane that had been closed following the 8:45 a.m. accident was expected to open shortly, the dispatcher said.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was reportedly trapped in the vehicle, but emergency officials said he was removed from the rig and transported to the hospital.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (Jeff Morris, Bethany Simmons) -- The driver of a tractor-trailer who reportedly was entrapped after his rig overturned on Interstate 77 near Charleston has been removed from the vehicle and transported to the hospital, Metro 911 said.

The accident happened about 8:45 a.m. Tuesday along Interstate 77 near the MacCorkle Avenue exit of Kanawha City. A dispatcher with the Turnpike Authority said one lane northbound, and one lane southbound were shut down as of about 9:30 a.m.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (Bethany Simmons) - Emergency crews were responding to a tractor-trailer rollover that reportedly left at least one person entrapped Tuesday.

It happened about 8:45 a.m. along Interstate 77 near the MacCorkle Avenue exit of Kanawha City.

A 911 dispatcher said that the truck came to a stop in the median of the interstate and was facing northbound. The truck was reportedly carrying wood, which the dispatcher said was scattered across the roadway.

The Charleston Fire Department was at the scene. Marmet Fire Department, West Virginia Turnpike Authority and the West Virginia State Police were all responding.
