HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (Dave Benton) -- It's not hard to forget how cold it got a couple weeks ago in the single digits. Hundreds of people in Cabell County unfortunately experienced pipes bursting.

That made it a busy two weeks for Teddy Johnson who owns T.R. Johnson & Son's Plumbing. "I have a stack of orders right here we've just taken today. It's definitely getting worse, we'd thought it'd get better but people when they had frozen pipes thought they'd call and put it off, now they're bursting."

Patience Akers lives in Huntington and is one of the many people who dealt with frozen or busted pipes. "Definitely preparing for pipes to burst this time because we ran out of water for 3 days and that was really rough, because you never realize how much you need to the water. So, we stocked up on bottles and bottles and got 2 extra space heaters, so we're trying to be ready for it this time around."

Plumbers say Akers has the right idea, keeping pipes warm makes a difference but Teddy Johnson says it also takes more than heating tape to save your water flow. Johnson says, "Make sure you have water running and not just a drip. You have to let both cold and hot water run."

Johnson also says opening cabinet doors under a sink can help prevent pipes from freezing.
