FAYETTEVILLE, W.Va. (WOAY TV, Jeff Morris) – A former corrections officer for the Federal Bureau of Prisons in Beckley pleaded guilty Monday to delivering a controlled substance.

James Howard Butcher of Fayetteville pleaded guilty to the charge in Fayette County Circuit Court, WOAY TV reported. Butcher also had been charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and conspiracy to commit a felony, but those charges were dropped, the TV station said.

Butcher will be sentenced on March 10.

Fayette County deputies said previously that in August 2013 officers with the Central West Virginia Drug Task Force, assisted by the West Virginia State Police, served a search warrant at a residence in the Whispering Oaks Subdivision of Fayetteville. Deputies said they seized a large quantity of prescription pills with an estimated street value of more than $3,000, more than $4,000 in cash and a large number of firearms.

Butcher was arrested and his girlfriend, Misty Irene Goodwin, 35, of Ivydale was arrested and charged with the same offenses of Butcher. Deputies said Goodwin was obtaining the pills in the Clay County area and then transporting them to Fayetteville, where she and Butcher then sold the pills.
