Man Faces Murder Charges After Two Men Shot In Barboursville Area

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (Dan Matics) -- Two men are dead, and the man accused of shooting them was taken into police custody on Saturday.

Police were called to a house in Barboursville just after 2:30 p.m., where they said they found the bodies of two men near a shed on Rodney Bruce Black's property.

Police said it appears the homeowner was nowhere near the shed when the two men were shot.

And police said the pair were shot at point blank range with a scoped riffle.

Police arrested Black and charged him with two counts of first degree murder.

Neighbor Clyde Bess described the area as normally “calm, quiet and friendly,” but it was clearly not the case Saturday afternoon.

Bess said he had never seen so many police cars in the neighborhood.

Sheriff’s deputies rushed to the home on Old Crow Drive in Barboursville after they said Rodney Bruce Black, 60, called 911 and said he shot and killed two men because they were breaking into his shed.

Cabell County Sheriff Tom McComas said the two men had every legal right to be at the shed.

He said the shed did not belong to Black, and that the two victims were not trespassing.

Detectives said Black shot and killed them without any warning from at least 50 yards away at this home.

They said Black even had to use a scope on his high powered rifle.

Black is facing two counts of first degree murder.

Some neighbors who didn't want to be interviewed said Black is known to cause trouble.

Bess said he barely knows him, and is shocked by what happened.

"Well, this is a pretty nice neighborhood,” he said. “I don’t know what to say! I'm just bumfuzzled!"

The two victims’ names were not released Saturday.




BARBOURSVILLE, W.Va. (Dan Matics) --Two men are dead, following a shooting in the Barboursville area of Cabell County.

Deputies were in the process of removing two bodies from the snow outside a shed where they were shot and killed on Saturday. Rodney Bruce Black, the home owner, is facing murder charges.

The shed is about 50 yards away from Black’s home, where he called 911 just after 2:30 p.m., saying that he thought two people were breaking into his shed. Police said Black shot them and killed the men.

Cabell County Sheriff Tom McComas said Black has been charged with two counts of first degree murder. He said it did not look as if Black walked over to the shed to see what was going on. He said the victims had every legal right to enter shed.

McComas said it appeared Black shot them point-blank, using a scoped riffle.

Police have not releasing the names of the two victims.
