BIRCH RIVER, W.Va. (Katy Brown) -- A Nicholas County family is desperate for answers. It's been several days of bitter cold temperatures and so far no sign of Dana Carte.

"Just keep hoping that the Lord is going to lead us to him and everything will be ok," said Sharon Strickland, the cousin of Carte.

The family of Dana Carte is trying to stay positive as the search continues. The Nicholas County man hasn't been seen since Monday.

The family feels Carte is still in the area, they just don't know where or how he ended up where he may be.

The 79-year-old was last seen at the Go-Mart in the Birch River area off Route 19.

He was there to drop off his grandson to another family member. But it's after that exchange, Carte disappeared.

"Dana was to get into his car and go home. But apparently he took the wrong turn and he didn't make it," said Strickland. "He has dementia a lot and he may have went in the wrong direction."

Family members say this isn't the first time Carte has made the wrong turn.

A while back, Carte was trying to head home from the same area, but took a wrong turn and headed towards Webster Springs. He realized his mistake and turned around to head back towards his home in Craigsville.

But unfortunately that doesn't seem to be the case this time.

"He would be home if he could be home," said Strickland. "And it's very cold out here and we really do need to keep searching and find him."

And as police and family continue to search, prayers are keeping them strong.

"Dana we love you, hang in there, we will see you soon"

Family members said Thursday Carte's car may have been found, but they have not found him.

And if you have any information about his whereabouts, you're asked to call police.
