CHARLESTON, W.Va. (Elizabeth Noreika) -- Carolyn Moats is like thousands of others, who don't trust that their water is safe. So Eyewitness News partnered with TRIAD Engineering, a consulting firm of geologists and engineers to conduct an independent test on the water..

The samples were taken Jan. 17 and then sent off to a lab to be tested for the chemical 4-MCHM along with the other constituents that make up crude MCHM. Among those chemicals are: 4-methylcyclohexanemethanol , 4-(methoxymethyl)cyclohexanemethanol , methyl 4-methylcyclohexanecarboxylate , dimethyl 1,4-cyclohexanedicarboxylate , methanol and 1,4-cyclohexanedimethanol.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says the level of hex-meth in the water has to be less than one part per million for it to be safe to drink and use.

The lab results showed that the detection limits for MCHM were below 10 parts per billion, which is 1 thousand times less than the CDC recommendation, also registered as a non-detect.

A total of 12 chemicals were tested for all of which were in the tank at freedom industries when that leak took place last week. None of them were found in Carolyn's tap water.

The engineers that did the sampling concluded that under CDC standards this water is safe, and that the flushing process is effective.

If you are still smelling that licorice smell in your water or are not comfortable with drinking it just yet, you can have the water tested in your home too.

You can go ahead and call TRIAD Engineering to get pricing information their number is 304- 755- 0721.

It's also important to note that these tests were conducted before Freedom Industries announced that there was another chemical in that tank, PPH, which was not tested for in our story.
