EYEWITNESS LOCAL NEWSI-77 Between Ripley, Ravenswood Reopens After Accidents; Multiple Wrecks Occur In Kanawha

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (Jeff Morris) -- Driving was treacherous in several counties after a winter storm created icy conditions.
The West Virginia Department of Transportation said Jackson Jackson County 911 reported that authorities blocked Interstate 77 between Ravenswood and Ripley due to multiple wrecks. A 911 dispatcher in Jackson County said at 3 p.m. the road had reopened after several wrecks earlier in the day.
In Kanawha County, 40 accidents were reported on roadways as of 2 p.m. Tuesday.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (Katelyn Sykes) -- Driving was hazardous in Kanawha County Tuesday when snowfall created icy conditions.
Metro 911 reported there were 29 accidents on roadways. The accidents occurred between 4:30 a.m. and 10:15 a.m.
In Lawrence County, Ohio, the sheriff's department issued a level two snow emergency, encouraging people to stay off the roads unless they absolutely have to travel.
Meanwhile, Yeager Airport was reporting at about 11 a.m. that there had been three flight delays and six cancellations.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (Bethany Simmons) -- The morning snowfall Tuesday caused dangerous road conditions for motorists in and around the Charleston area.
Metro 911 said it received numerous reports of vehicle accidents throughout Kanawha County before 7 a.m. A head-on collision was reported about 6 a.m. in the 4700 block of Big Tyler Road in Cross Lanes. Another accident was reported about 6:30 a.m. in the Dawes area of Cabin Creek Road.
Also by 6:30 a.m., Metro 911 said it received reports of multiple accidents with possible injuries along Interstate 77 southbound near the Edens Fork exit in Sissonville.
Dispatchers were urging motorists to take extra time while traveling Tuesday and to remember to slow down.
