CHARLESTON, W.Va. (Jeff Morris) -- West Virginia American Water is not stopping all water distribution sites permanently, its spokeswoman said.
"Our tankers are being refilled and will be returned as quickly as possible to their previous locations," Laura Jordan, external communications manager for the company, said. "We will update you once they are back at their locations."
Jordan's statement follows an announcement by Kanawha County officials that all bulk distribution sites were being shut down. Some people at the distribution sites said they had smelled a strong chemical smell in the water buffaloes at the sites.
County officials said there were a number of bottled water distribution sites still open.
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (Jeff Morris, Kallie Cart) -- Kanawha County officials are stopping all bulk water distribution sites per the direction of West Virginia American Water Co.
Kanawha County Commission President Kent Carper said people at the county's distribution sites noticed a strong chemical smell after the water buffaloes were delivered. The water buffaloes will be drained, and officials are trying to figure when they started filling up the tanks in Charleston. Carper believes it was after the ban was lifted.
Kanawha County Manager Jennifer Sayre said in a news release Thursday that bottled water distribution locations will remain open at the following locations for Kanawha County;
Crossings Mall, Elkview
Marmet Recreation Center
Nitro Police Department
