CHARLESTON, W.Va. (Jeff Morris) -- West Virginia American Water's spokeswoman said Thursday that the company has restored water to more than two-thirds of its customers who were in the do-not-use advisory.

"As of this morning, we had 69,000 customers restored, so we are over the two-thirds mark," Laura Jordan, external affairs manager for the company, said. "We were able to restore five more regions throughout the evening, and we also lifted two more late last night. We are continuing to make progress throughout the day."

Jordan's interview marked the second day a public relations company has provided a taped segment for television stations to air.

During the latest interview, she said due to recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control the water company would continue doing samples in the water system until there are no trace amounts of the chemical that had previously tainted the water supply. She also mentioned that the CDC has recommended that pregnant mothers use an alternative water supply.

When asked about the number of people who have gone to emergency rooms seeking treatment in the wake of the chemical spill, Jordan said water company officials are aware of the reports, but are letting all medical issues be handled by medical professionals.
