CHARLESTON, W.Va. (Jeff Morris) -- West Virginians are getting a helping hand when it comes to bottled water from one of their own.

Bishop T.D. Jakes, senior pastor of The Potter’s House in Dallas and a native son of Charleston, is providing two tractor-trailers full of bottled water, according to a news release from Charleston officials.

Once the tractor-trailers arrive, city officials said, they will distribute the bottled water to the public from the fire stations in Charleston that have been serving as water distribution locations and from Abundant Life Church on Washington Street East, with the help of Pastor Wayne Crozier.

Charleston Mayor Danny Jones said Jakes called him Sunday afternoon and asked how he could help. Even though the worst of the crisis seems to be over, Jones said, many people still are affected by the do-not-use order and many are anxious about using the tap water for drinking or cooking.

“We will be able to use this water to meet the continuing need in our community, and I appreciate Bishop Jakes’ willingness to help,” Jones said.

Because of the anxiousness over the water, the mayor said the city is going to try to keep bottled water distribution sites open in Charleston as long as supplies last. Cases of bottled water are also available inside St. Marks United Methodist Church, Washington and Dickinson streets).
