CHARLESTON, W.Va. (Heath Harrison) -- West Virginia American Water said Tuesday that the intake site on the Elk River is now showing no level of 4-Methylcyclohexane Methanol.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (Heath Harrison) - West Virginia American Water on Tuesday lifted a do-not-use-water order for a eighth area Tuesday. Customers living in the Alum Creek and Upper Falls area can begin the flushing process.

This marks the fourth area in which the water company lifted the ban for on Tuesday.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (Jeff Morris) - West Virginia American Water on Tuesday lifted a do-not-use-water order for a seventh area Tuesday. Customers living in the George Washington area around South Hills can begin the flushing process.

This marks the third area in which the water company lifted the ban for on Tuesday. Customers living in the Edgewood and Southridge/Southside areas of Kanawha County were notified earlier in the day that they could begin the flushing process.

Four other areas were given the clear on Monday and the water company said customers living in those zones could start flushing their systems -- downtown Charleston, Kanawha City; some of South Charleston; and North Charleston and the West Side.

The water company apologized on Tuesday for taking so long in lifting the ban for the next area, but said it was taking a methodical, systematic approach so it did not overload the system. Prior to the ban being lifted on the third area on Tuesday, the water company had not announced a new area since 7:30 a.m. when the ban was lifted for the Southridge/Southside area.

Officials advise customers to consult the online map to determine their location as it related to the currently lifted areas.

Previously, the water company said the do-not-use order has now been lifted for about 35,000 customers, according to West Virginia American Water.

On the map, blue means you are OK and red means you are still under that do not use advisory. There also is an emergency hotline you can call to determine whether you are in one of those clear zones, 1-855-390-4569.

Monday night, the water company had halted lifting any more areas because it said after lifting the do-not-use order for 26,000 customers “the system needs time to settle so our operators can measure how it is reacting to the flushing activity.”

The processing of lifting more areas resumed Tuesday morning.
