CHARLESTON, W.Va. (Jeff Morris) -- United Way of Central West Virginia is establishing a West Virginia emergency fund to assist affected residents who suffered from lost wages and reduction of work hours as a result of the recent water emergency.

Many residents lost wages due to businesses being closed for lack of fresh water. Even though the crisis is beginning to lessen, lost wages will put pressure on household budgets. United Way of Central West Virginia is connected with the network of emergency assistance agencies serving the affected areas and will serve as the conduit to assist those in need, according to a news release from United Way.

Donations are now being accepted for the emergency fund. Donations can be made via cash, check, or credit card by contacting United Way of Central West Virginia using the information below. United Way officials said they hope that residents will join the agency in emphasizing the importance of “neighbors helping neighbors” by assisting those who have been affected by this water emergency.

Donations can be made to:

United Way of Central West Virginia
One United Way Square
Charleston, WV 25301

To contact United Way, call 304-340-3500. The fax number is 304-340-3508. The organization’s website is here
