CHARLESTON, W.Va. (Katelyn Sykes) -- As thousands of people continue to use bottled water during the water crisis, many have been asking if anything will be done to recycle all of those plastic bottles.

While people continue to bring those empty bottles to water fill-up stations across the region at some point they won't be needed anymore and will be thrown away.

Charleston Mayor Danny Jones said the city doesn't have any special plans when it comes to recycling these bottles and folks can continue to take them to West Virginia Recycling Services on Slack Street.

Kanawha County Commission President Kent Carper said the county is working on a plan that will consist of special collection centers around the county. He said that plan is still being developed at this time and more information will be released at a later time.

West Virginia Recycling Services has been busy, in the meantime, collecting plastics over the weekend.

"The drop site right behind me is open 24-7," said George Hunyadi, the owner of West Virginia Recycling Services. "We've got 30 yard open top containers where people can throw either their clear one gallon containers like a milk jug container, as well as small water bottles whether it's 16 ounce, 8 ounce."

In the meantime, the Charleston Town Center is getting involved and has challenged its 52 teen volunteers, or Teen Board and Junior Board, to collect as many empty water bottles in the next seven days.

The Boy Scouts of America Venture Crew is also collecting empty plastic bottles at the Buckskin Council Headquarters at Daniel Boone Park and at the Cross Lanes United Methodist Church. For more information, call 304-340-3663.

Cities with curbside collections should place all empty plastic water bottles in clear bags provided by their city.

Kanawha County residents may log onto this site for more information.
