CHARLESTON, W.Va. (Dave Benton, Heath Harrison) -- A community was in shock Saturday night, after a 90-year-old man was murdered in his own home.

Police said George Molle Jr. was found at his home in the 4900 block of MacCorkle Avenue.

Police were not releasing many details of the crime, but were seeking help to find the person responsible.

The neighborhood where Betty Jarvis has called home for decades took a turn for the worse Saturday.

“I thought it couldn't be anything bad, nobody bothers anybody here,” she said. “We all talk to each other and give each other candies and cookies. We are a neighborhood.”

Police said Molle was murdered in his home sometime Friday, and the suspect was on the loose.

“We call this, at this point, mysterious,” Steve Cooper, with Charleston police, said.

Police said Molle was found dead in his home in the 4900 block of McCorkle Avenue in Kanawha City at about 9 a.m. Saturday.

Dr. Mohammad Imani's office is just a block away from the crime scene.

“Sad and shocking,” Imani said. “This kind of stuff doesn't happen here, and your neighbor is murdered in cold blood. That's disgusting.”

Police are not releasing how Molle died or whether they have a suspect in mind.

“We don't have a lot of info yet,” Cooper said. “That's what we're working on getting now.”

The horrible crime in a good part of town had police asking anybody who might have noticed anything suspicious to report it.

It was a lifestyle change for Jarvis.

“I walk the alleys all the time,” she said. “I walk to Foodland, to Drug Emporium and the post office and feel perfectly safe. Not now, not now. I not only will be cautious. I will be on guard.”

Anybody with information who can help police solve the case is asked to call 911.
