A murder investigation in the neighborhood where Daniel Payne just moved isn't exactly how he wanted to get to know his neighbors, but that's what happened after a fatal shooting at this house late Tuesday afternoon.
Payne said he moved from another area of town just last week, looking for a quieter place to live.
"I kind of feel like out of the furnace, into the frying pan, so to speak, with the event that happened," he said
A neighbor was shot to death late Tuesday afternoon.
Police said James Johnson, 25, shot Robert Crutcher when he tried to intervene in an argument between several men at Crutcher's home. He died at the hospital.
Police caught up with Johnson after he sought treatment for a head injury at another local hospital.
Teresa Clark has lived in the Highlawn area for years. She doesn't like to see violence hit so close to home.
"It scares you," she said. "You make sure you keep your doors locked."
People living in this area like Teresa Clark say they are scared. This is the second shooting incident in this area in recent weeks. A few blocks away on Highlawn Avenue, another shooting took place not long ago, but police say it isn't out of the ordinary.
"We've had other incidences but no more than anywhere else," Huntington Police Lt. John Williams said.
While it isn't the welcoming Payne had hoped to receive in his new neighborhood, he says he won't live in fear.
"I'm still going to live life normal," he said. "I'm not going to let something like that deter me from going about my everyday routine."
Johnson is charged with murder. Police continue to investigate.

When police arrived, they found Robert Crutcher, 44, with a gunshot wound to his upper body. He died at the hospital.
Johnson reportedly went to Cabell Huntington Hospital to be treated for a head injury. He was arrested upon his release from the hospital.
