Charleston , Kanawha County , West Virginia

A young Kanawha County woman who has been battling extensive health issues for much of her life, had a dream come true over the weekend.

Makayla Clark, 18, of Marmet was able to meet West Virginia University basketball coach Bob Huggins at the 2013 Capital Classic. The West Virginia Kids Cancer Crusaders organized the experience, according to a post on the Cheering for Makayla Facebook page.

Clark was born with Down syndrome and just before her second birthday, was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia. At that time, Makayla successfully completed chemotherapy and became cancer free. When she turned 11, Makayla underwent a kidney transplant.

In the fall of 2012, Makayla became very ill and was flown from Charleston to a Cincinnati hospital. She was diagnosed with a myeloid tumor in her mouth and also Post Transplant Lympho-Proliferative Disease (PTLD) in her neck region, according to the Facebook page.

After spending months at Cincinnati Children's Hospital, she was able to return to her home in Marmet. During the past year, Makayla and her family have traveled back and worth from their home in West Virginia to the Ohio hospital so she could receive extensive treatments in hopes to keep Makayla as healthy as possible.

Makayla also dreams of meeting teen superstar Justin Bieber.

You can learn more about Makayla's journey on her Facebook page called Cheering For Makayla.
