Huntington , Cabell County , West Virginia

Huntington police are seeking information on the whereabouts of a man whose car was found on the 31st Street Bridge early Friday.

According to a news release from the city of Huntington, the missing man has been identified as James Darren Mathis, 37.

Mathis is a white male, weighing 145 pounds and 5 feet, 11 inches tall. He has graying hair and was last seen wearing black pants, a white shirt and blue jacket.

Police said the investigation began after Cabell County 911 received a call at 2:14 a.m. Friday regarding a suspicious or abandoned vehicle on the 31st Street bridge. When officers arrived, they said they found the car unoccupied.

The officers went to the registered address for the vehicle and made contact with a family member of the missing man. The family member said Mathis was last seen at about 9 p.m. Thursday, and was discovered him missing from the house at about 1:30 a.m. Friday.

Police and U.S. Coast Guard conducted a search of the Ohio River on Friday but did not find any signs of a missing person. The West Virginia National Guard conducted a simultaneous search by helicopter.

Anyone with information about Mathis or his whereabouts is asked to call 911 or the Huntington Police Department tip line at 304-696-4444.
