Two police officers were injured and four cruisers damaged during a pursuit early Friday morning through Scioto County.

Brian K. Rawlins, 27, of New Boston was taken into custody and transported to the Scioto County Jail, where he was being held on multiple felony chargesm including three counts of vandalism and two counts of assault on a police officer.

A trooper with the Ohio State Highway Patrol stopped a truck on U.S. 52 near Manning Street in Portsmouth about 12:30 a.m. The highway patrol said the trooper was getting out of his car when the suspect rammed his cruiser, leaving it disabled. Troopers said the suspect fled in his truck eastbound on U.S. 52 when another trooper stopped the suspect near State Route 335. Troopers said the suspect also rammed that patrol car.

Troopers said two New Boston police officers were in pursuit of the suspect when they said he rammed into one of the police cruisers. Officers said the suspect drove through a grassy median and fled westbound on U.S. 52.

The suspect attempted to strike two more cruisers and missed. When the suspect reached U.S. 52 and State Route 140, troopers said, he tried to strike another patrol car and slid off the roadway. A trooper used his car to block the suspect's truck to prevent him from fleeing again.

A New Boston police officer and a trooper with the highway patrol were injured and were taken to Southern Ohio Medical Center where they were treated and released. A total of four patrol cars were damaged, with three of them being disabled.
