The characters have been immortalized in books for a century..and on film for 75 years. Familiar faces from Oz are back for a new adventure, this time with a Yuletide theme.
"Christmas In The Land Of Oz" tells the tale of Dorothy and her dog Toto, as they once again journey from Kansas to a mystical land, where she rejoins her friends the Scarecrow, Tin Man and Lion to battle a wicked witch who has stolen the spirit of Christmas.
"I think that if you come to the show you'll get a different view of Oz," Megan Posey (Dorothy) said. "But you'll also get some Christmas spirit along with that and you'll fill your spirits up for the holiday season."
Unlike the classic movie, "Christmas in the Land of Oz" is not a musical. But the play offers lessons on loneliness, happiness and ultimately that the spirit of Christmas isn't something that can be taken away, not even by a wicked witch.
"I think when they bring back Christmas it will bring a little Christmas spirit into your heart and get you ready for the holidays," Alison Fletcher (Wicked Witch of the Northwest) said.
The cast is made up of more than 50 children and adults, with an army of volunteer set builders, costume makers and technicians helping bring the story to life.
"It brings back that Christmas spirit and joy that you expect to see when you're in the land of Oz," Zach Davis, the director said. "It's a whole new story, a whole new adventure that you don't want to miss."
