Charleston , Kanawha County , West Virginia

Kanawha County's prosecutor describes a shooting inside a Charleston convenience store, where two men were shot at point blank range by a man they didn't know, as one of the worst random acts of violence in the past decade.

The gunman was sentenced Thursday for the crime that was caught on tape.

The victim's mother made an emotional plea in court for justice for her son, Josh Lawson, who is still recovering from life threatening injuries after being shot in the neck.

“I had to sit there and learn how to feed my baby again,” Marlena Daugherty said.

Antonio Collins sat in silence during his sentencing. No apology or explanation was offered for the brutal shooting inside a 7-Eleven on Charleston's West Side last April.

Collins can be seen on camera, bumping into Lawson and his friend. The three then exchanged words. That's when Collins pulled out a gun and shot Lawson in the neck, chased Lawson's friend through the store and shot him and then calmly walked out of the store with a bottle of water, right past Lawson, as he struggled to survive. Collins didn't know the men.

“This is the most random act of violence that I've seen in the past eight years,” Kanawha County Prosecutor Mark Plants said.

Collins pleaded guilty to two counts of attempted murder and two counts of malicious wounding Thursday and was sentenced to the maximum 13 to 50 years.

Daugherty said she is satisfied with the sentence and feels that justice has been served, but the fight to fully recover still isn't over for her son.

“My Christmas present is that my son is still living, and I'm so thankful,” she said.

Collins' attorney said he has serious mental problems and asked the judge to take that into consideration. But Judge Charles King still sentenced Collins to the maximum.

A man was sentenced to 13 to 50 years in prison Thursday for two brutal shootings that took place inside a convenience store on Charleston’s West Side.

Antonio Collins shot Josh Lawson in the neck and then shot Lawson's friend after bumping into the two men inside the 7-Eleven on Charleston's West Side. The incident happened in April and was captured on the store’s surveillance video.

In Kanawha Circuit Court on Thursday, Collins received three to 15 years for attempted murder; six to 15 years for a second attempted murder charge as a recidivist; and two to 10 years for two counts of malicious wounding. The sentences will run consecutively.

Judge Charles King presided over the case.
