If you have to head out Monday, you might want to leave a bit early, as the morning commute could be a bit treacherous.
Six inches fell in some parts of our region Sunday morning and, of course, that made it tough for people on the roads.
“It's been really slick all morning,” Steve Tincher of Kanawha County said. “Across 70 in Ohio and I-77 - It's better, but a lot more accumulation here, a lot slushier and slick.”
Tincher traveled with caution Sunday morning, after six inches of snow fell in Jackson County.
“I have a 4-wheel drive pick-up truck and make sure it has good tires on it,” he said.
Bob Hernon of Loraine, Ohio was also on the roads.
“It's been good starting out, but we got five inches in Cross Lanes,” he said. “Roads have been pretty bad, seen three wrecks already here.”
According to Jackson County 911, there were 15 to 20 weather-related car crashes. Fortunately, there were no serious injuries to report.
And when the roads get bad, here's some good advice from some drivers who dealt with the slick roads Sunday morning.
“Just make sure I have enough gas in the car, in case something happens,” Edward Rose of New Jersey said. “At least you'll have heat in the car.”
Hernon also had some advice for drivers.
“Drive slow or stay home,” he said.
Many of the roads in Jackson County have been treated and plowed, but some secondary roads in rural areas are still slick. Drivers are urged to be careful if they have to get out.
The snow-sleet-freezing rain mix put several inches on the ground.
