Clendenin , Kanawha County , West Virginia
As the rain fell Friday, flooding quickly became a concern.
Several areas in Kanawha County were impacted by the rushing waters. Clendenin was one of the worst hit communities with much of the area still under water Saturday.
For some people, like Betty Hoffman, getting home was difficult.
"It's not going to go down, so i'll probably have to go to a hotel," Hoffman said. "it'll probably be two or three more hours even if it goes down until i can get across to go home."
Hoffman has lived on Thorofare Road for several years and said she's never seen flooding like this.
Water covering the road making it impossible for cars to pass. And for those who tried to cross, it served as a lesson learned the hard way.
And it's just the roads covered with water preventing some people from coming home.
Shana Elswick left her house around midnight Saturday as the water started to collect.
"I left work about midday, come to check on my home," said Elswick, "And it was surrounded by water."
Homes now sit on what looks like islands.
Looking at the outside, Elswick feels helpless. She's wondering how much water had made it inside her home and where she'll spend the night.
"I guess just wait," Elswick said. "That's the only thing I can think to do."
There is already another flood watch in effect for 1 p.m. Sunday to 1 p.m. Monday - not something you want to hear after the problems so many communities are already dealing with.
