Paint Creek , Kanawha County , West Virginia
With heavy rains, high water is a concern - not just for the roads, but for homes as well.
One family in Paint Creek had, basically, a swimming pool in their basement.
Dave Shaffer had been working all day to prevent it from happening, but now, all he can do, he said, is watch the water rise.
As rain continued to fall, the water continued to rise, flooding several homes in the Paint Creek area of Kanawha County.
“It's just running across the road, then it's filling up,” Shaffer said. “It's filling up, and it's filling everybody's lots up here. This is what we end up with."
Water had not yet reached the main floor of the home, but the basement was another story.
"I got about four feet in my basement," he said.
It was a familiar sight for Autumn Romin. Her family lost their home to flooding more than three years ago.
“Water was up to our waist,” she said. “We lost everything there, and it was gone."
As the rain stayed steady, all Shaffer could do was hope for the best.
"I don't know what to do,” he said. “I don't know. I need help."
