Stand-off/Murder Connection

Charleston , Kanawha County , West Virginia

It was a tense afternoon at a Charleston apartment building as US Marshals and Kanawha County Sheriff's deputies found themselves in a stand-off situation with a man they were trying to bring in.

Miguel Quinones, Jr. was ultimately arrested by US Marshals on outstanding warrants for a parole violation. Quinones was previously convicted of murder. He was hiding out in his girlfriend, Shawnique Hudson's, home, and she was also arrested.

And the name Miguel Quinones might sound familiar. He was recently named in connection to the ongoing investigation into the murder of Kareem Hunter of Charleston.

The woman charged with killing him, Kelsey Legg, was in court for a hearing a couple weeks ago.

After those proceedings, Eyewitness News got a copy of a search warrant connected to the case. It named two men, including Miguel Quinones, who allegedly picked up a trailer used to move bloody furniture out of Kelsey Legg's apartment to a storage unit.

While authorities have yet to formally connect the dots, Kareem Hunter's family is pleased Quinones has been arrested. They believe it's just the next piece of figuring out what happened to Hunter, to fall into place.

"I know there's more involved, and this is a long road for my family," said Yvette Parks.

Yvette Parks is Kareem Hunter's aunt, and lives at the Hillcrest Apartment Complex---the very spot Miguel Quinones was hiding out before being arrested Tuesday by US Marshals. Parks is relieved Quinones is off the streets, because she's convinced he was in-cahoots with Kelsey Legg to kill her nephew and cover it up. While police won't comment on the connection, Parks believes Quinones is one of the men pictured in surveillance footage buying paint and carpeting to cover the blood stains in Legg's Marmet apartment.

"I sat here feeling helpless that this man was right here, pretty much at my doorstep and I was powerless to help my nephew and get justice. All you can do is keep calling and keep saying, 'Help!' to the police department, the sheriff's department, 'He's here! Come get him!'" Parks said.

But even with Legg and Quinones behind bars, Kareem Hunter's family and girlfriend still have a lot of unanswered questions.

"We still don't know why, and hopefully with this new arrest, we'll be able to find out a little bit more as to why. But even if we do find out why, I don't think this is something anybody deserves. I know Reem wasn't somebody that deserved that," said Chasidy Wickline, Hunter's girlfriend.

Now, Hunter's loved ones are just hoping police will officially put the pieces together and arrest everyone connected to his murder.

"Yes, they've got Kelsey Legg. But we know there's more people involved, and until they all are behind bars, I'm not going to feel safe. My family's not going to feel safe," Parks said.

As of right now, Miguel Quinones is not being charged in connection to Kareem Hunter's murder. He's only being charged with a parole violation and drug possession.
