E-commerce is bigger than ever and with it comes a lot of cyber crime. That's why Marshall University is holding a Cyber Safety Summit Tuesday morning.

The focus is to keep on-line shoppers safe. A few tips to keep in mind include always use a familiar or trusted website like Amazon, Target or Best Buy. Watch out for misspelled business sites, they can be frauds. Also, look for the icon of a locked padlock in the status bar.

Marshall University student Alex Brannick learned the hard way about shopping on line. "I had my debit card information stolen before and had to go through this huge thing with the bank to get the money back, so I'm especially careful now, because I don't know how it got stolen."

Brannick isn't alone. John Sammons, an assistant professor at Marshall University says thousands of people each year get duped on-line. That's why he's the head of a cyber safety summit Tuesday morning. Sammons says it's very easy for people to get away with cyber crimes. "It's easier than you might think. The problem we have is the jurisdictional issue. You don't have to be in the same town, city, county or even country. You can victimize folks from all across the globe."

The Cyber Safety Summit will run from 10-2 Tuesday morning at the St. Mary's Center for Education.
