Some stores opened their doors on Thanksgiving Day, although Black Friday doesn't officially get under way until midnight. Kmart opened its doors at 6 a.m. Thursday.
The store opened earlier than any other retailer. Shoppers were waiting in their cars before the store opened to get their hands on Black Friday bargains.
The manager at the store in Kanawha City said they had a pretty good turnout Thursday morning.
"We had somewhere about 100 maybe 150 people waiting outside," Kmart Manager Dan Lauer said. "The line started around 5 a.m. and by the time we opened up at 6, it was pretty full out there."
Many other stores will open Thursday night, including Toys "R" Us at 5 p.m., Walmart and Best Buy at 6 p.m. and JCPenny at 8 p.m. Kohl's Macy's Target, Sears and the Charleston Town Center will all open at 8 p.m.
Meanwhile, the Huntington Mall in Barboursville will hold its Rock the Mall Midnight Ball later tonight.
The mall doors will open at 6 p.m. and the its anchor stores will open beginning at 8 p.m.
At midnight, the tree will be lit and their reindeer games will begin.
The first 1,000 shoppers at 11 p.m., will be given a bag filled with Black Friday offers and reindeer gear. If shoppers are caught wearing the gear, they will receive a prize.
More than 2,000 dollars in mall gift cards will also be given away throughout the weekend.
