With forecasters predicting a major winter storm during the busiest travel day of the year, many airlines waived fees they usually charge you for changing a flight.
That prompted many people flying out of Yeager Airport to a Thanksgiving destination to move their flights up, either by a day or by hours, to try and avoid any potential weather-related delays.
"I'm definitely trying to beat the bad weather because they said mostly snow later on tonight and I definitely gotta get home," Don Keller of New Orleans, Louisiana said. "We were going out at 8:00 and turned around and changed it to now 1:00."
U.S. Airways included Yeager in its list of airports where the change of flight fees were taken off of the board. Other airlines offered the same courtesy, but only for specific routes and destinations.
"It's not to say all of the flights are going to be delayed or canceled," Brian Belcher with Yeager Airport said. "So, if you think you don't want to take a chance waiting in airports getting stuck in airports, it's probably a smart idea to go out and have your ticket changed or you can do it over the phone or online."
Belcher says even if Yeager keeps its runways clear, potential delays at airports east of here, including Washington, D-C and New York City, could snarl arrivals and departures here.
And that could be a big hurdle to getting home in time for the holiday.
We asked Keller what his mom would say if he did not make it for Thanksgiving?
"Mom would be really mad, very mad," Keller said.
