A staple of the Charleston restaurant scene, Soho's is emerging from Chapter 11 bankruptcy. And its regular customers say they are happy one of their favorite eateries is getting on solid financial footing.

"Oh, we've been coming here for years," Kitty Morgan of Charleston said. "The food is always great but we love the urban vibe that it has here and we see people we know."

Soho's filed for Chapter 11 in August, a few months after the death of the restaurant's founder and chef Bill Sohovich.

Failed ventures at the Blossom Deli and Billy's at Southridge saddled the company with a mountain of debt. Bankruptcy gave Sohovich's wife some breathing room to strike a deal with creditors and keep the restaurant's doors open.

"It's not only my livelihood, it's the livelihood of the restaurant, everyone working here and for the community," Sharon Sohovich, proprietor and general manager of Soho's said."You know I think we're a big part of the community and we need to keep it going on."

It was initially thought the reorganization could take up to three years, but all sides came to an agreement within just a few months. The final order is awaiting a judge's signature.

"We're gonna continue to be here," Sharon Sohovich said. "And we're looking forward to a great holiday and settling our bankruptcy and moving on as Billy would want us to."

With Soho's financial problems now being ironed out, customers they're happy a favorite dining option is remaining on their personal menus of choice.

"We have a very small number of restaurants to choose from compared to other bigger cities that we're used to traveling to," Morgan said. "So, we gotta support and keep our fine restaurants going. It's just a fun to come and the food is always great."
