Gandeeville , Roane County , West Virginia

Two firefighters from the Gandeeville-Harmony Volunteer Fire Department are expected to be OK after a firetruck overturned while they were responding to a call in Roane County.

The tanker truck, valued at $250,000, was totaled in the 7:15 a.m. accident that happened Tuesday along Harmony Road, Fire Capt. Mike Randolph said. The two firefighters who were in the truck, the department's chief and a volunteer, were alert and walking after the wreck, but they were taken to Roane General Hospital as a precaution, Randolph said.

Randolph said the crew was responding to a blaze that occurred at a home on Harmony Road. Two teens who were in the residence managed to get out of the structure, but it was a total loss. Two other departments, Spencer and Walton, responded to the fire, and Randolph said the residence could not have been saved even if the crew from Gandeeville-Harmony had made it to the scene, which was several miles away.

Randolph said the weather conditions played a role in the crash of the firetruck.

The department did have insurance on the firetruck and will be checking with the insurance company to see how much will be covered. Meanwhile, another department will be loaning Gandeeville-Harmony a firetruck until it can secure a permanent replacement.

Two people were taken to the hospital after a firetruck overturned while responding to a call early Tuesday in Roane County.

The accident was reported about 7 a.m. along Harmony Road in Gandeeville. Eyewitness News viewer Joseph Landis sent us this photo from the scene.

Eyewitness News has learned two people were inside the firetruck and taken to the hospital. The extent of their injuries was not immediately available. Eyewitness News has a crew headed to the scene and will update this story as more details become available.
