Fairplain , Jackson County , West Virginia

A shooting in Jackson County spanned three crime scenes two counties and left two men injured.
Deputies are now saying both men were shot with the same gun.

The two men were shot along the road in front of a motel on W.Va. Route 21 near the Fairplain Friday morning.

One of the wounded made it to the nearby Love's Truck Stop.

Police stopped the other man, bleeding in a truck, just outside of Charleston city limits.

The Jackson County Sheriff is charging the man who walked into the truck stop for the crime.

Deputies have identified him as Thaabit Bashir, 23, of Columbus, Ohio. They said he was shot in the leg during an apparent struggle for his own gun. He's now being charged with two counts of attempted murder and one count of malicious wounding after deputies said he shot up a truck and shot Brandon Barnett in the head. Barnett is from Greenup, Ky. He was being driven to a Charleston hospital, in the bullet-riddled truck, when police pulled it over on Interstate77.

"Scary! Run! Duck! “The other boy got shot in the head,” Bobby Dingess, who was driving the truck, said. “Got shot in the arm. Got shot in the hand. He (bashir) started shooting at me and I just ducked for cover. "

Charleston police helped Jackson County deputies extract bullets and bullet fragments from Dingess' truck. There appeared to be at least 10 bullet holes.

Deputies believe the entire ordeal is drug related.

It was a chaotic morning , with so many different crime scenes, one of those being a very busy truck stop.

Greg Yackley was on his way from North Carolina to Detroit, and had stopped for the night at the Loves Truck
Stop to get some sleep with his wife and six kids, never expecting what unfolded there Friday morning.

“I woke up shortly before the gunshots and I heard a pop, followed by seven more pops," Yackley said.

"I was just thinking, ‘ wow. you know we have children in the car,’and I was like, ‘should we leave?’ We decided to stay here."

Jackson County Sheriff Tony Boggs said Friday that a Columbus, Ohio, man has been charged in connection with a double shooting that spanned two counties.

Thaabit Bashir, 23, is charged with two counts of attempted murder and malicious wounding, Boggs said. He will be arraigned in Kanawha County once he is released from the hospital.

The incident started early Friday morning during an apparent dispute over drugs in an empty lot in front of an old motel along Route 21 in Fairplain. During a struggle in a truck , Bashir was shot in the leg. Boggs said he then got out of the vehicle and fired multiple shots, striking Brandon Barnette of Greenup, Ky.

Bashir went to a nearby truck stop for help. Meanwhile, the truck, carrying Barnette and a man from Logan County, sped away and was stopped along Interstate 77 in Charleston. Bashir went to a nearby truck stop for help.

Bashir and Barnette are both in the hospital with injuries that are described as non-life threatening.
