Ripley , Jackson County , West Virginia

Jackson County Sheriff Tony Boggs said Friday that an arrest in forthcoming in connection with a double shooting that spanned two counties.

"I think an arrest is imminent," Boggs said. "At this point, we think it appears to be drug related."

One of the victims was apparently shot in an empty lot in front of an old motel along Route 21 in Ripley, while the other victim was found inside a truck that was stopped along Interstate 77 in Charleston. Boggs said the injuries were non-life threatening.

Police were questioning a third person in the case. Boggs said there were three people involved in the incident. The man who was shot in Ripley and then went for help at a nearby store for help is from the Columbus, Ohio, area and the second shooting victim is from Greenup County, Ky. The sheriff said the third person is from Logan County, but when asked if the person is a suspect in the shooting, the sheriff said, "We intend to make an arrest."

The sheriff said law enforcement officials believe only one weapon was used in the incident. Officers were still collecting evidence at the scene in Jackson County, and Boggs said Kanawha County law enforcement officers were inspecting the vehicle.

A shooting investigation on Friday morning is spanning two counties.

The Jackson County Sheriff's Department said they believe the shooting happened in an empty lot in front of an old motel along Route 21 in Ripley about 4 a.m. One victim showed up at Loves Truck Stop, about less than a quarter of a mile from the scene, covered in blood and said he had been shot. He was taken to a Charleston hospital.

At that time, Jackson County emergency officials issued an alert for a truck possibly involved in the shooting. It was stopped along Interstate 77 in Charleston, riddled with bullets. A second shooting victim was found inside the truck and transported to the hospital. Police said the victim had been shot in the arm and the head but was conscious.

Deputies haven't released any information on the victim's identities, how many times they were shot or their relationship to each other. Deputies and West Virginia State Police were heading to the hospital to talk to them. No word on their conditions.

A third person was being questioned Friday morning but so far, no arrests have been made and no suspects have been identified.

Jackson County Sheriff Tony Boggs said he believes this is an isolated incident.
