A small Wayne County school hosted an open house for a library that was built with the use of donated funds.
Dunlow Elementary hosted the open house for the new library on Monday. Before the school had the new facility, it kept books in a multipurpose building that also was used for physical education. Principal Chandra Perry saw the need when children took little interest in books because they couldn't concentrate in the multipurpose room.
Members of the St. Therese Catholic Church in New Jersey visited the school in 2012. The church and the community helped to raise $45,000, which helped to purchase a trailer. A new $10,000 roof was donated. The library was stocked after a book drive gathered more than 4,000 titles.
Perry said reading scores have improved and students are excited to have a new, quiet place to read.
