Man Killed By Train In Marmet Identified; Stretch Of Tracks Has Been Deadly In The Past

Family members identified the man who was hit and killed by a train in Marmet on a stretch of tracks where there have been two other fatalities in the past nine years.

Anthony Dawkins, 53, was killed by the CSX train when he was walking on the tracks near 98th Street and Ohio Avenue about 1:30 p.m. Monday.

The stretch of tracks has been the site of two other fatalities over the years.

In 2012, Johnny McCallister, 47, of Boone County was killed near 98th Street. A witness said he tried to pull the victim off the tracks. When that didn't work, he tried to alert the conductor.

Meanwhile, in 2004, an unidentified girl was hit and killed by a train on the 98th Street crossing. The accident happened about midnight.




The victim who was struck and killed by a train in Marmet was a man who was walking along the tracks.

The incident was reported about 1:45 p.m. Monday at 98th Street and Ohio Avenue.

Several law enforcement agencies responded to the scene.

Several law enforcement agencies were in Marmet on Monday afternoon investigating whether a pedestrian was struck by a train, Metro 911 said.

West Virginia State Police, the Kanawha County Sheriff's Office and the Marmet Police Department responded to 98th Street and Ohio Avenue after reports that a pedestrian may have been hit by a train, an emergency dispatcher said.

The incident was reported about 1:45 p.m. The dispatcher said no victim had been found, and law enforcement agencies were investigating.
