A Michigan family is grieving the loss of a loved one after he was shot to death Saturday night in Huntington.

"He's going to be missed. That's for sure," said a family member, who did not wish to be identified. "I just couldn't believe it. The way things are making this sound, this isn't him. That isn't the life that he was living," she said.

Police said someone shot Collins Jamall Harris, 31, multiple times. He was found at a house in the 1200 block of 26th Street.

The family member talked to Eyewitness News in a phone interview from Michigan, and told us more about Harris. She said he was a great father to his three young children.

She said Harris, who was from Detroit, was just visiting with friends, and was not the type of person to get into trouble.

"He played the drums for the church, was involved in the church youth group, fraternity, all kinds of things," the family member said. "Played football, basketball."

Now family and friends are trying to cope with his loss.

"My daughter wrote him a letter saying he was the best father in the world today, and that's what I want her to remember. All the good times," she said.

They are hoping someone will be held responsible.

"I know his kids deserve the closure. His family deserves the closure, and I pray that it all works out the right way," she said.

If you have any information, call Huntington police at 304-696-4444.
