The Portsmouth Police Department said there was a fight between the two men in front of Loper's home on Center Street. An autopsy confirmed Clark died from head trauma.

"Man up, man up.” James Loper III of Portsmouth said. “This is bullcrap. You let an innocent man who just got his freedom back, just got his health back, trying to get his life back, trying to walk a straight line - and this is how he's going to end.?"
Eyewitness News reached out to the victim’s family, but they declined an interview. Clark's sister-in-law told Eyewitness News she witnessed the beating and said Loper belongs in jail.
