Nearly $700,000 will be used to help improve pipeline safety in West Virginia.
On Tuesday, U.S. Sens. Jay Rockefeller and Joe Manchin and U.S. Rep. Nick Rahall announced plans to make pipelines more safe, reliable and durable.
The West Virginia Public Service Commission will receive nearly $500,000, and West Virginia emergency response will receive a little more than $200,000.
The funding comes from the Department of Transportation's pipeline and hazardous materials safety administration.
In December, the importance of pipeline safety was thrust into the spotlight when a huge pipeline explosion occurred in Sissonville.
