A woman from Proctorville was arrested, after police said she embezzled more than $150,000 from her employer.
Connie Whitley, 50, turned herself into police Saturday morning after police said she embezzled from the Uptowner Inn, where she was the bookkeeper.
The company owns several hotels and HUD apartments in our region.
State Police said she is charged with felony embezzlement and that her crime began four years ago.
“In the end, greed gets you,” State police Sgt. Greg Losh said. “Paper crimes are always going to catch up with you. I think that was the fall here, she become a little bit too greedy."
Police said Whitley admitted she started writing checks to herself to pay bills, and to buy a television and supplies for her husband's business. Police said the bulk of the money was used to buy pain pills for her husband's drug habit.
Whitley is being held in the Western Regional Jail on a $50,000 bond.

Troopers say Whitley embezzled the money from Uptowner Inn, which owns several hotels and HUD apartments. Troopers say the crime happened over four years.
Whitley was arraigned in Cabell County Magistrate Court. She is currently headed to the Western Regional Jail.
