Charleston police detectives have determined that the report of a threat made to Mary C. Snow Westside Elementary was false.
The false report was a related to an ongoing child custody issue and there was never a threat to students, teachers or school administrators, police said in a news release.
A Charleston police officer will remain at Mary C. Snow West Side Elementary School for the remainder of the school day Friday after the principal said a threat was made.
Principal Mellow Lee told Eyewitness News that the school had received third party information they perceived as threatening to the school on Friday morning.
The capital city school was placed on lockdown for about an hour beginning at 10 a.m. About 20 minutes into the lockdown, students and staff were able to move throughout the building, but no one was able to enter or leave the facility. At the time the incident was reported, about 20 officers responded to the school.
Lee said no students or staff were in any danger. Charleston police talked to some staff members before questioning a parent of the school who they called a person of interest.
Details of the threat have not been made available as Charleston police continue to investigate.

Police responded to the school about 10 a.m. A school employee said the alleged threat involved a parent. No details were provided about the alleged threat.
The school was put on lockdown Friday morning, but the lockdown has been lifted.
Witnesses said there were a lot of police cars around the school Friday morning.
