Kanawha County residents have an opportunity to safely dispose of unused prescription medications this weekend.
The Kanawha County Sheriff's Office will participate in the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration's National Drug Take-Back.
Residents of Kanawha County can drop off unused prescription medications to the following Kanawha County Sheriff's Office detachments between 10 a.m. 2 p.m. Saturday:
Chelyan Detachment, 200 Upper Kanawha Valley Way, Cabin Creek
Cross Lanes Detachment, Goff Mountain Road beside the GoMart
Elkview Detachment, 1078 Main St., Elkview
Sissonville Detachment, 6438 Sissonville Drive,Sissonville
St. Albans Detachment, 6805 Ohio Ave.,St. Albans
The nationwide effort is to ensure proper disposal of unused prescription medications.
Anyone with unused or leftover prescription medications is encouraged to properly dispose of the medications by participating in the program.
Improper disposal of prescription medications includes flushing them into the sewer system or placing them into the garbage where they may eventually seep into the soil and water table at a landfill.
