Charleston police released the names of the woman arrested and man being sought in connection with thefts that police said took place after the suspects attended open houses and stole various items.
Police said Tonya Ramsey, 39, of Charleston was arrested Wednesday on two counts of felony grand larceny. A warrant has been filed charging Billy Ramsey, 39, of Charleston with two counts of felony grand larceny in connection with the same incidents, police said.
The suspects were attending opening houses, which were held by realtors, in the Kanawha City area, police said. The suspects are accused of stealing jewelry and firearms during the open houses.
According to a criminal complaint filed in Kanawha County Magistrate Court, the thefts occurred Oct. 14 and Oct. 15 at a house on Kanawha Avenue and a residence on Staunton Avenue.
Police said they identified the suspects after the realtor who conducted the open house on Kanawha Avenue gave a description of the man and woman and the vehicle they were driving. An officer was able to locate Tonya Ramsey at a residence in Kanawha City. During an interview with the officer, he said, she acknowledged the roles that she and Billy Ramsey played in the thefts and she returned some of the stolen merchandise. One of the victims also found some of her stolen items at a pawn shop, where police said the merchandise was pawned.
Police believe there could be more victims, and they are asking anyone with information to contact the police department.
Charleston police said one person has been arrested and another was being sought after they attended open houses in Kanawha County and stole various items.
Sgt. Tony Hazelett said the suspects were attending opening houses, which were held by realtors, in the Kanawha City area. The suspects are accused of stealing jewelry and firearms during the open house.
Charleston police planned a press conference about the recent larcenies at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Hazelett said.
A warrant has been obtained for the second person responsible.
