One person is dead following a fire and explosion at a house in Ritchie County.
Media outlets report that the fire and explosion occurred shortly before 10:30 p.m. Monday.
A residence next door was damaged by flames but no one was there at the time. A third house sustained smoke damage. The family who lives there escaped without injury.
The cause of the fire and explosion hasn't been determined, but State Police said oxygen tanks were inside the home.
Ritchie County Emergency Services Director James White told WTAP-TV that the victim was a man in his 50s or 60s. He hasn't been identified.
White said the explosion melted several electrical wires, causing power, phone service and cable outages.

A 73-year-old man died in an overnight fire in Ritchie County.
The fire was reported about 10:30 p.m. Monday at a residence along East Miles Avenue in the Pennsboro area, state fire marshals said. The Associated Press reported that West Virginia State Police told WDTV-TV that there was a fire and explosion. A residence next door was damaged by flames but no one was there at the time.
The AP reported the cause of the fire and explosion hasn't been determined, but State Police said oxygen tanks were inside the home. West Virginia fire marshals continue to investigate.
