Tornado , Kanawha County , West Virginia
Deputies said a woman is lucky to be alive after she lost control of her vehicle and it landed in a Kanawha County river Wednesday night.
The accident happened about 8:25 p.m. Wednesday along Coal River Road, Cpl. Brian Humphreys with the Kanawha County Sheriff's said.
Sierra Harper, 20, of Tornado was driving a Volkswagen Beetle north near the 6500 block of Coal River Road in the Tornado area. The driver reportedly lost control, drove off the roadway, struck a tree and traveled over the embankment into the river where it landed on its top, Humphrey's said.
The driver kicked until she shattered the door’s window glass, then swam to the shore.
The driver was taken by ambulance to Charleston Area Medical Center General's Division. Meanwhile, the vehicle was removed from the river. Humphrey's said weather is believed to have been a factor in the crash.
