Things – or make that people -- will really be “jumping” Saturday in Fayette County.
Bridge Day, the largest extreme sports event in the world, is scheduled with hundreds of BASE jumpers and nearly 80,000 spectators expected to attend festivities on the New River Gorge Bridge, according to the organizers’ website.
The 876-foot tall bridge will serve as the launch point for six hours from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for legal BASE jumps.
Bridge Day is the only day of the year that traffic is shut down and spectators can safely and legally walk across the world's second longest single arch bridge. Vehicular traffic on the bridge will be closed from 7 a.m. until about 5 p.m.
Hundreds of vendor's booths will be available for those seeking to find souvenirs.
