October is a big month for high school marching bands in West Virginia.
Fourteen bands comprised of more than 1,000 students will participate in the first Cavalcade of Bands Southwest Regional Band Festival at West Virginia State University on Saturday. The competition is sponsored by the university and the St. Albans High School Music Department.
A week later, 26 marching bands from across the state will gather in Charleston for the second annual West Virginia Marching Band Invitational. The Oct. 19 event at the University of Charleston is sponsored by the West Virginia Division of Culture and History.
