Residents and business owners of Charleston's west side attended an open house Thursday.
Charleston police invited all to come and share their opinions on how to make the West Side safer.
Those who attended the open house had the opportunity to take an anonymous survey about various aspects of the West Side.
They were also able to get a glimpse of the current social services available and provide feedback on how they picture their community in the future.
The goal is to remove drugs off the street, while giving non-violent offenders a second chance.
“What we hope to see is, not only a change with the crime rate and some of the offenders, but we also hope to see a change in the way the West Side looks and feels, the perception and just walking down the street," Cpt. Kim Mitchell, of Charleston police, said.
