Kathy Bryan loves sitting on her porch each day to work on her crochet, but she knows not to go out after dark in her neighborhood along 11th Avenue.
"The three years we've lived here it's gotten really bad," she said. "It's too dangerous."
The latest violent incident actually happened just after the sun came up Thursday morning. Bryan said she was walking her dog when she saw police cruisers lined up near her house on 11th Avenue near 20th Street.
Police said someone came into the upstairs apartment of Christopher Jones, 25, and shot him several times in bed and fled. A young child was home, but not hurt in the shooting. Police said he is recovering at a local hospital.
"Well I've been expected something to happen, because there's too many coming and going, you know," Jesse Adkins, who's been fixing up the house across the street for months, said.
He said he is trying to get good people to rent the house in the neighborhood that's become a hot spot for crime the past few years.
"I would like to see it cleaned up," Adkins said. "Beause you know there's people that's lived here all their lives that's good people. Why should bad ones run the good ones out?"
Bryan said she's too fed up to stick around much longer.
"I've afraid because somebody's driving by, shooting at somebody else, and I get hit, or my husband or my dog," she said.
She said she and her husband have plans to move soon.
If you know anything about who shot Christopher Jones, call Huntington police at 304-696-4444.
