Williamson , Mingo County , West Virginia
Following two more federal informations Wednesday, people who live in Mingo County are now becoming accustomed to seeing corruption charges brought against public officials.
Everyone Eyewitness News spoke with in Williamson said since corruption allegations first started to surface earlier this year, there really are no surprises anymore. People there have started to acknowledge that corruption schemes are a problem: from the top of government on down.
Add in what's happening in Washington, D.C. right now, and they said there's little reason to trust public officials.
"Altogether, I feel our government is a let down," Mingo resident Donny Daniels said. "The corruption here is just a drop to show what's going on everywhere. It's just like Lincoln said, 'United we stand. Divided we will fall,' and I think that's what's happening with our government and people today."
Resident Patricia Maynard also weighed in.
"We all don't get what we think, huh?" she said. "As the old saying goes, 'What's in the dark always does come to light.' So, if they're guilty, they need to go to jail and pay their dues just like we do."
And as more heads roll in alleged Mingo County corruption schemes, locals are only left to speculate about who will be indicted next.
That's why some people in the area even said in light of all that's happened, it's time for a housecleaning in local politics to wipe the slate, start fresh and put the scandals of 2013 behind them.
