The Cabell County Sheriff's Department and the Huntington Police Department will soon have additional funds to help fight crime.
U.S. Rep. Nick Rahall and Sens. Jay Rockafeller and Joe Manchin announced Wednesday that a federal grant of $49,600 will be shared by the two law enforcement agencies. Huntington police will use a portion of the funds to increase patrols and pay overtime for officers who attend neighborhood watch meetings. The Cabell County Sheriff's Department will use the funds to purchase a new patrol vehicle.
The U.S. Department of Justice Edward Byrne Justice Assistance Grant Program provided the funds.
The funding was approved prior to the government shutdown on Oct 1, but there will likely be a delay in the transmission of the funds until federal agencies resume full operations, Rahall said.
